According to Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research,
“”high-achieving” refers to a student who scores at or the 90th percentile on the ACT 2 comprehensive or the SAT I (math and verbal) and who has a high school grade point average of A- or above. This is approximately 4 percent of U.S. high school students.”
A growing problem in today’s world is the fact that a large percentage of high-achieving students who graduate with honors and who are above average in their intelligence frame are from low-income families.
That means, they apply to colleges that are more affordable rather than prominent. Or, they may not even be able to expand their educational opportunities past high school. Their intellect overrides their capabilities of affording a more lucrative choice of educational institution. Yes, there are certain government programs that assist low-income families which provide somewhat affordable financial aid, but not enough to invite these gifted students to upper high-end colleges.
This world certainly needs more geniuses, no matter their level of income. How is this subject even approachable? How is it possible to reach out to students with higher IQs yet no financial means to be able to attend schools like Princeton, Juilliard, Harvard, Yale and Duke. Even though scholarships are available and are probably the best way for low-income students of stature to become accepted at these higher end schools, they are not absolute ways to guarantee acceptance.
Large possibilties determine and weigh upon whether or not a student is granted a scholarship. There are several different categories of scholarships, making the chances for acceptance greater, however, it is not unequivocal.
Although I’m sure that researchers have contemplated this topic in several different studies, trying to reason through it. Only time will tell and show any evidence of benefit for the high-achieving, low-income students. What do YOU think could be done for them? How would YOU handle this situation? Show your input.
I promote and market multiple streams of income to college students and anyone!
